Electricity is the fuel we use in our everyday lives for things like: lighting, heating, appliances, computers, telephones and games. Find out more about how it is made and how it gets to your home.

Glossary of electricity terms
The words and terms used to describe energy and electricity can be difficult. Refer to our glossary of words for assistance.
Electricity Safety Week is an annual program run by EnergyAustralia. Its aim is to support teachers in educating children on electricity and electrical safety. All its (Stage 3-relevant) lesson plans have been designed in conjunction with the NSW Department of Education and Training and are based on the K-6 SciTech syllabus, incorporating "COGs" and "Big Ideas".
All schools are welcome to use the online teaching resource, which can be used at any time during the school year.
During 2008, Electricity Safety week will run in Term 3 from September 1 to 5. To register your interest in participating, email your name, school and mailing address to esw@primary-pr.com or call 9212 3888 to receive a participation prize pack for your class.
As part of Electricity Safety Week there is also a competition open to Stage 3 (Year 5 & 6) students, that complements EnergyAustralia's Electricity and Safety program.
EnergyAustralia also has a range of simple activities for students (K-6) that can be downloaded.
